Creating Your Own Superhero and Their Child 1/8/17

This week in science our class learned about probability of the traits that will be passed on from the parents to their offspring. We did this by finding a mate (that is a villain) for a superhero that we created in the past then creating punnet squares for some of the traits that their child would have. What I learned was that all dominant traits are represented by a capital letter and that all recessive traits are represented as lower case letters. What I also learned is even though both of your parents have a dominant trait but the combination of letters is heterozygous then you can then have the recessive trait. One other thing I learned is that you can't write the two alleles down with the lower case letter first because the dominant has to go first. The last thing I learned is that when creating letters for each trait both letters need to be the same, it can't be U and i, it needs to be I and i or U and U. Going on with that the alleles have to be shown as letters and not numbers so it can't be 5 and 4 it has to be L and l or other letters.

S&EP 2- Developing and Using Models:

This week we constructed many models so we could find the probability of what the parent's offspring's traits will be. We did this by creating punnet squares, which were very helpful in finding the probability and the percentage of homozygous and heterozygous for that trait. We were also using models that we previously created which was a graph to create our punnet squares. So, in conclusion,
this week we used and created lots of models which helped our class finish their work.
