"New" Scientific Method 9/2/16

This week in science we learned more about the scientific method. What I learned was that the scientific method has no ending and no order. I also learned about how scientists after they are done with an experiment they write in something called a scientific journal. What they the do in a scientific journal is they put in their data and their findings so other scientists can build of their findings. Then after they are done they get peer review where other scientists check their journal to make sure it is correct and they get that so other scientists can trust that their findings are true.


S&EP  6-Constructing explanations and designing solutions:

This week I did a lot of explaining because we did a document that asked a lot of questions that involved explaining. For example one of the questions was, what is meant  by peer review so you had to explain what peer review is. Another example was what is the difference between an independent variable and a dependent variable? So you had to explain the difference. Explaining is important because when you explain people understand what you are trying to say better. So this week benefited me a lot.

Friday and Monday we were writing down the definitions of (I believe) organelles that are part of the urinary and digestive system. Here are some examples of some of the organs my class had to write down the definitions for, the esophagus, the pancreas, the liver, the small intestine, and the large intestine. One thing that I forgot to add is that there was one other paper that had the definitions down for my class because I did not want anybody thinking that my teacher would make us write the definitions on our own out of the blue. The way we knew the definitions was because on Thursday or Friday I forgot which day any ways my teacher showed what every organ that we had to write the definition for what each organ did in order. But the fun part was she assigned every single person in my science class an organ to make it fun. What also helped was that Ms. J went over the answers with my science class also she allowed us to switch our answers if we got them wrong that especially helped

Chemistry Mastery Quest 2 Regrade

The Question I got Wrong Was: Reactions that involve burning are classified as I originally answered decomposition, the correct answer was actually exothermic. I realize now that exothermic is the better answer and was the correct answer. This is because exothermic reactions release heat causing its environment to get warmer. This creates a rise in the temperature which creates the burn. This means that exothermic reactions involve burning. This is why the correct answer was better than my original answer and is the best answer.

Plate Tectonics 3/10/18

Summary:        This week in science we learned about Plate Tectonics. Plates have been on Earth for thousands of years and are consistently moving (very slowly). Through this the Earth can recycle our land, by destroying the old land, and creating new land. These plates are made of rock and are in the lithosphere layer of the Earth. Another thing I know is that there are 3 different type of plate boundaries. Those three types of plate boundaries are convergent boundaries, divergent boundaries, and transform boundaries. Convergent boundaries are when two plates collide and their are two different types of convergent boundaries. The two types of convergent boundaries are collisional boundaries and subduction zones. A collisional boundary is when two plates with the same density collide. Because they are the same density the plates buckle and warp. The land then pushes up into jagged peaks forming a mountain.
