Molecules 2/25/16

Image
Link        The things that I learned this week in science were about atomic theory and periodic table. What I learned about atomic theory was that atoms are the most important part of atomic theory. What I also learned about atomic theory is that ( this is a follow up of the atoms part ) protons, electrons, and neutrons make up an atom, and 2 or more atoms make a molecule and 2 or more molecules make up an element, and 2 or more elements make up a compound. What I learned about the periodic table was that the periodic table is split up between metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. What I also learned about the periodic table is that row are called periods and columns are called groups.

Matter 2/13/16

Image
Link   All five states of matter      On Thursday and Friday my science class did a document on matter ( and partly physical and chemical change. What I learned from doing that document was that their is actually five states of matter and I only that their was three ( because the three I knew were the most common ). The fives states of matter are solids liquids, gasses ( common ), plasma, and be condensates ( aren't common ). The other thing I learned was that air counts as matter. I used to not think that because I thought it didn't have a volume or mass to it but I did know it did take up space and anything that is matter has to take up space and have a mass/volume. I also didn't think that because I knew it couldn't be a liquid or a solid and I thought it couldn't be gas. But when I finally changed my mind was when Ms. J said that if you fill up a balloon with air it will way more than it did without air.

Baking Soda and Baking Powder with a Little Bit of Vinegar 2/6/16

Image
Link        Friday in science we did an experiment on what would happen if we put baking powder in vinegar because we know the results of putting vinegar in baking soda. Which is it explodes/over flows and creates carbon dioxide. The thing that we had to do for this experiment ( or paper whatever you want to call it ) is a write on a paper our observations and also draw them. What happened in the experiment was we pored vinegar in baking soda and powder ( obviously ) and the materials we used to do this was 2 small cups of vinegar, 1 small cup of baking soda, and 1 small cup of baking powder. My observations were for baking powder were that the water was more thick than the baking soda and it was much less bubbly. My observations for the baking soda were the exact opposite which is that the water was not that thick and the water was very bubbly. My other observations were that the baking soda's bubbles were big and the baking powder's bubbles...

The Unknown Crystal, Dun Dun Duhhhhhhhh!!!! 1/28/16

Image
Link       Today and yesterday my science class and me were trying to figure out what the unknown crystal is. Most people thought it was Epsom salt but it isn't because Ms. J said so our choices to chose from are Epsom salt, sugar, salt, and MSG. I personally think that it is salt just in bigger pieces. My reasoning behind that is Epsom salt is a type of salt and it looked just like the unknown also the MSG's and sugar's shapes aren't even remotely close to the unknown so that just leaves salt. The things I learned from this experiment in class is don't eat what Ms. J tells you not to eat ( just kidding but I actually did learn that and sorry Ms. J ) also to  look more closely when you make observations. The last thing I learned was that you in order to figure out a problem you have to a couple experiments.

M&M Activity/Presenting Sever Weather Projects 1/14/16

Image
Link        Today for science we did a thing with an M&M. What we did was we got a plate and filled it with water then we placed the M&M in the center of the plate and then we just left it there and wrote down what we saw was happening to the M&M. What I learned that from doing this was that when you put an M&M in water it disintegrates. Link       A couple of days ago people presented their Sever Weather Project ( except for me because I didn't have to ). The thing I learned about most was hail so I am only going to give tell you things I learned about hail. One thing I learned from listening to other peoples projects was that hail is actually balls of ice getting thrown at you and I didn't know that. I also learned that to be safe in hail you want to block the windows because you windows can break in a hailstorm. The last thing I learned that one piece of hail can be as big as a tennis ball. So just imagine a bi...

The Atmosphere 12/3/15

Image
Link For Image I Searched on Google        This week I learned about the atmosphere in science. The things that I learned about the atmosphere are that the atmosphere has four layers which are the troposphere, the stratosphere, the mesosphere, and the thermosphere these layers are all in order I also learned how high each layer is in kilometers. The way I learned this was by doing a worksheet in science and in the worksheet you had to draw a line plot of the different temperatures and altitudes. I also learned this by taking notes on a couple of videos that my class watched in science. I really liked learning about the atmosphere because at my old school we didn't do science so this is the first time in my life that I am learning about the atmosphere also learning about the atmosphere was a fun learning experience.                           Sincerely, Nicolas Reed     ...

Project Blog for Severe Weather Project 1 - 8 - 15

Image
What I Did to do the Project and the actual Project Link          The project was called Severe Weather Project. But the project was different for me then most of the other students because I was on an Independent Study so I had to do it on paper not on computer. The thing I had to do was choose two severe weather patterns  ( I chose tornadoes and floods ). The thing you had to do with the severe weather patterns was write a description, geographic occurrence, formation conditions, safety and preparation, possible damage, and other interesting info for the severe weather patterns.  The Start of the Project Blog          What I learned from doing this project is that floods are very dangerous because I used to think that they weren't that dangerous. Another thing I learned is the way you can see tornadoes, which is the collected dust in the tornado. One other thing I learned was that in the U.S....
